Dana-Farber Cancer Institute
Work at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute from 2004 to 2014 included the dsign and implementation of comprehensive signage and donor recognition programs for the Yawkey Center for Cancer Care, including the "Gene Display" immersive installation.
The Gene Display recognizes donors and represents the research that leads to cancer therapies. The display provides a place for patients, families, and individuals to convey their personal messages of hope or tribute to loved ones and caregivers. The display is representational of a series of microarrays, the technology used to survey the behavior of multiple genes in one tumor cell. The Gene Display’s two 40ft x 5ft walls contain 2,600 four-by-four inch tiles. A full color programmable LED lighting system is used to display the microarray gene patterns. The colors transition gradually through 10 patterns in a sequence designed with the peace and health of the patients in mind.
